First Visit
Your First Visit
Your First Visit Is About Understanding Your Story
Whether you've been dealing with pain for two weeks or twenty years, your first visit is designed to answer one question:
Why isn't your body recovering the way it should?
Before we discuss treatment, we want to understand how your symptoms began, how they have changed over time, and what may be contributing to them today.
Every patient is different.
That means every evaluation should be different, too.
Step One: Let's Talk
Healing starts with a conversation.
We'll spend time learning about you—not just your pain.
We'll discuss:
- What brought you to our office.
- When your symptoms began.
- Previous injuries or surgeries.
- Treatments you've already tried.
- What makes your symptoms better or worse.
- Your daily activities, work, hobbies, and lifestyle.
- Your health goals.
Many people are surprised by how many questions we ask.
That's because every answer helps us build a clearer picture of what your body has been through.
Step Two: A Thorough Examination
Once we understand your history, we'll begin the physical examination.
Depending on your condition, this may include:
- Posture assessment
- Walking and movement analysis
- Range of motion testing
- Orthopedic examination
- Neurological examination
- Functional muscle testing
- Joint motion assessment
- Applied Kinesiology evaluation
- Balance and coordination testing
- Functional movement patterns
Not every patient requires every test.
Your examination is tailored to your individual concerns and clinical presentation.
Step Three: Understanding the Findings
After the examination, we'll explain what we found in language that makes sense.
We'll discuss:
- What appears to be contributing to your symptoms.
- Which structures may be involved.
- Why certain areas are compensating.
- Whether additional imaging or referrals may be appropriate.
- What treatment options are available.
Our goal is to help you understand your body—not overwhelm you with medical terminology.
If something isn't clear, we encourage you to ask questions.
An informed patient is an empowered patient.
Step Four: Treatment
If treatment is appropriate on your first visit, we'll discuss our recommendations before beginning.
Your care may include one or more of the following:
- Chiropractic adjustments
- Soft tissue therapy
- Myofascial release
- Neuromuscular rehabilitation
- Therapeutic exercise
- Instrument-assisted techniques
- Home care recommendations
Not every patient receives the same treatment.
The treatment follows the findings from your examination.
Step Five: Recheck Before You Leave
One of the principles of our office is simple:
Test. Treat. Retest.
Whenever appropriate, we recheck the areas we evaluated to see how your body responded to treatment.
Sometimes improvement is immediate.
Sometimes healing takes time.
Either way, those findings help guide future care and allow us to measure progress rather than simply assume it.
Healing Doesn't End When You Leave
Much of your recovery happens between visits.
Before you leave, we'll review any recommendations that may help support your progress.
These may include:
- Specific exercises
- Activity modifications
- Ice or heat recommendations, when appropriate
- Walking or movement guidelines
- Ergonomic suggestions
- Lifestyle recommendations
Small changes performed consistently often have a significant impact on long-term recovery.
Common Questions
What Should I Wear?
Comfortable clothing is always recommended.
Athletic wear, shorts, T-shirts, leggings, or loose-fitting clothing generally allow us to perform a more complete movement examination.
If you're coming from work, don't worry—we can usually work with what you're wearing.
What Should I Bring?
Please bring a photo ID; any imaging reports or CDs you would like us to review; a list of current medications and supplements, if available; and any questions you would like answered.
If you have previous records related to your condition, they can also be helpful.
Will I Be Treated on My First Visit?
Often, yes—but not always.
Every patient is different.
If we determine that treatment is appropriate after your examination, we will discuss our recommendations with you before beginning care.
There are situations where additional imaging, medical evaluation, or referral may be the safest and most appropriate next step.
Our first priority is providing care that is appropriate for your individual situation.

Our goal is to help you understand your body and support lasting improvements in your health and function.
